The Department of Foreign Affairs in the Philippines has taken a decisive step and even summoned the Deputy Chief of Mission Zhou Zhiyong of the Chinese Embassy in Manila. This action comes in response to the alarming harassment faced by Philippine vessels on April 30, 2024, while engaged in a routine humanitarian mission to Bajo de Masinloc.

The Philippines lodged a vehement protest against the egregious actions perpetrated by China Coast Guard and Chinese Maritime Militia vessels. These actions include ramming, swarming, shadowing, blocking, and engaging in dangerous maneuvers against vessels belonging to the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR). The use of water cannons by Chinese vessels resulted in significant damage to both PCG and BFAR vessels.

In light of these aggressive acts, the Philippines has demanded an immediate withdrawal of all Chinese vessels from the vicinity of Bajo de Masinloc. The incident has escalated tensions in the region, prompting swift diplomatic action from Manila to address the situation and safeguard Philippine sovereignty.

The Philippines reaffirms its commitment to peaceful resolution of disputes and adherence to international law in the South China Sea. However, it stands firm in defending its territorial integrity and the rights of its citizens against any form of aggression.
