The Taguig Regional Trial Court has handed down a life sentence to Deniece Cornejo, Cedric Lee, and two others in connection with the serious illegal detention case filed against them by actor Vhong Navarro.

The case stemmed from an incident in 2014 when Navarro was allegedly assaulted and unlawfully detained by the defendants following a confrontation at a condominium unit in Taguig City. Navarro accused Cornejo and Lee, along with their accomplices, of subjecting him to physical harm and wrongful confinement.

After years of legal proceedings and hearings, the Taguig RTC finally reached a verdict, finding the defendants guilty beyond reasonable doubt. The court's decision to impose the maximum penalty of life imprisonment underscores the gravity of the offense and sends a strong message against the perpetration of violence and abuse.

Moreover, in addition to the life sentence, the defendants have been ordered to pay a total of P300,000 in civil moral and exemplary damages to Navarro.
