2 Filipinos Dead in Türkiye Quake

The Philippine Embassy in Türkiye announced that two Filipinos were killed following the Magnitude 7.8 Earthquake which hit the country last February 6.

Despite the tragic development, it said that Philippine officials are continuing their efforts to provide aid and support to Filipino citizens affected by the recent earthquake in southeast Türkiye.

The ambassador is leading a team that includes the Consul-General, the Office of the Philippine Defense and Armed Forces Attaché, the personnel of the Philippine Embassy in Ankara, the Philippine Consulate General in Istanbul, and local Filipino volunteers.

The team has already successfully evacuated over ten Filipino families from the city of Antakya, one of the hardest hit areas in the region. The families are currently being transported to Ankara, where they will receive shelter.

The Embassy is also grateful for the arrival of the Philippine Inter-Agency Humanitarian Contingent Team in Türkiye, and is working in partnership with the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) to provide aid and support to those in need. The team will also be deployed to Gaziantep for additional relief and evacuation operations.
