The Mayor of Bonifacio, Misamis Oriental, Samson Dumanjug, was forcefully removed from the municipal office by the Philippine National Police (PNP) on June 16, 2023.
The incident occurred after Mayor Dumanjug was subjected to an additional 60-day suspension by the Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP), following the reversal of an initial six-month suspension imposed by the SP and subsequently overturned by Malacañang.
Mayor Charlotte Panal of Tambulig, Zamboanga Del Sur arrived at the scene and expressed her distress, questioning the PNP about the necessity of restraining her father. The family has since appealed to President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to address the matter.
On June 21, 2023, Senator Ronald "Bato" Dela Rosa discussed the issue during a radio program interview. Mayor Charlotte Panal had reportedly sent a letter to Senator Dela Rosa, requesting a formal Senate hearing to investigate the PNP's actions in forcibly taking Mayor Dumanjug from his office without a warrant or legal documentation.
Senator Dela Rosa stated that he had not yet read the letter, as he was still verifying if it had reached his office. He emphasized that he was aware of the incident through the videos circulated on social media and expressed his intention to thoroughly examine the situation with his staff. He also mentioned the possibility of filing a resolution to address the matter once he has gathered more information.
