The Borongan Diocese has provided further details regarding the dismissal of Mr. Pio C. Aclon from the clerical state.
Mr. Aclon had previously demanded a copy of the Vatican's decision regarding his dismissal, which has now been addressed by the Roman Catholic Bishop of Borongan.
On September 18, 2023, Mr. Pio C. Aclon requested from the Roman Catholic Bishop of Borongan a copy of the Vatican's decision or decree that led to his dismissal from the clerical state.
The Bishop responded to this demand by furnishing Mr. Aclon with a copy of the relevant letter from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith.
However, the document was redacted to maintain the confidentiality of the reasons behind Mr. Aclon's dismissal.
Under Canon law, the Roman Catholic Bishop of Borongan has both the duty and authority to inform the faithful about Mr. Aclon's dismissal, leading to the publication of the "Informationis Causa" on September 17, 2023.
To shed light on Mr. Aclon's allegations and provide clarity on the matter, the Diocese has chosen to make their reply available to the public.
In response to Mr. Aclon's demand letter, Colleen I. Calleja, representing the Roman Catholic Bishop of Borongan, has addressed the legal aspects of the case.
In her detailed reply, Ms. Calleja emphasizes that the Informationis Causa publication was a matter of church discipline and not subject to court inquiry.
She argues that malice cannot be imputed against the Bishop as he acted based on the existence and truth of Vatican documents regarding Mr. Aclon's dismissal.
Regarding Mr. Aclon's demand for Vatican documents, Ms. Calleja clarifies that the letter in question is private communication between the Holy See and the bishop, and confidentiality is observed as per Church discipline.
She highlights that multiple attempts were made to serve the decree to Mr. Aclon, but he refused to receive them, with proof of notification provided through a notarized document signed by Mr. Aclon's sister.
The attached confidential letter from the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, dated May 10, 2023, further supports the claim that Mr. Aclon had been duly notified of his dismissal.
