Manila, Philippines - Typhoon Chedeng continues to weaken and accelerate as it moves north-northeastward over the Philippine Sea, according to the latest bulletin from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA). The public is advised to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions as the storm system affects certain areas of Luzon and Visayas.

As of 10:00 AM, the center of Typhoon Chedeng was estimated to be approximately 1,100 kilometers east-northeast of Extreme Northern Luzon, with coordinates 23.5°N and 132.1°E. The typhoon has maximum sustained winds near the center reaching 120 km/h, gustiness of up to 150 km/h, and a central pressure of 975 hPa. Chedeng is currently moving north-northeastward at a speed of 25 km/h.

The extent of tropical cyclone winds associated with Chedeng reaches up to 440 kilometers from its center. However, no wind signals are expected to be raised for the remainder of the forecast period. Instead, the Southwest Monsoon, enhanced by Chedeng, will bring occasional to monsoon rains over the western portions of Luzon and Visayas in the next three days.

PAGASA forecasts that Chedeng is unlikely to directly bring heavy rainfall over the country in the next three days. Nevertheless, the Southwest Monsoon, reinforced by Chedeng, will affect Luzon, particularly the western and extreme northern parts, due to the formation of a frontal system north of Extreme Northern Luzon. The Southwest Monsoon is expected to be mainly enhanced from Tuesday onwards, resulting in gusty conditions and potential impacts on coastal and upland/mountainous areas.

While the effect of Chedeng on the monsoon will diminish as it moves away from the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR), another weather system is expected to further enhance the Southwest Monsoon, prolonging gusty conditions over most of Luzon from Tuesday onwards.

In terms of hazards affecting coastal waters, Chedeng may bring moderate to rough seas measuring 2.0 to 3.0 meters over the seaboard of Extreme Northern Luzon within the next 24 hours. Mariners of small seacrafts are advised to exercise caution and take necessary precautions when venturing out to sea. It is recommended for inexperienced or ill-equipped vessels to avoid navigating in these conditions.

According to the track and intensity outlook, Chedeng will continue to move away from the Philippine landmass and is forecasted to accelerate northeastward, exiting the PAR region tonight. As the storm progresses, it will weaken further throughout the forecast period due to increasingly unfavorable environmental conditions. PAGASA predicts that Chedeng will be downgraded into a severe tropical storm within the day.

Residents living in areas highly or very highly susceptible to hazards are advised to follow evacuation and other instructions from local officials. PAGASA urges the public, as well as disaster risk reduction and management offices, to take all necessary measures to protect life and property.

For specific information regarding heavy rainfall warnings, thunderstorm/rainfall advisories, and other severe weather updates in your area, please monitor the products issued by your local PAGASA Regional Services Division.
