The Czech Republic has expressed its keen interest in establishing partnerships with the Philippines in the fields of defense and agriculture.

Czech officials, including high-ranking government representatives and business delegates, are set to visit the Philippines in the upcoming year to explore mutual opportunities for cooperation.

Czech Republic Ambassador to the Philippines, Karel Hejč, presented this initiative during his meeting with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. on Tuesday. He emphasized the abundant opportunities in the Philippines and outlined plans for collaborative ventures. "The opportunities are here. We just need to grab them," Ambassador Hejč stated, highlighting the importance of seizing these opportunities for mutual growth and development.

The collaboration will commence with a visit from the foreign committee of the Czech parliament, focusing on vital defense and security issues in regional geopolitics.

Additionally, later in the year, the Czech Republic plans to send its Minister of Agriculture to Manila, accompanied by carefully selected business delegations.

These delegations will comprise companies interested in engaging with Filipino counterparts and investing in various sectors within the Philippines.

Czech Republic, renowned for its expertise in defense and security technologies, boasts a robust defense manufacturing sector. Ambassador Hejč noted that Czech Republic's defense industry produces top-quality war instruments, arms, and ammunition.

The country manufactures a wide range of equipment, including fighter jets and airplanes. The collaboration extends beyond the supply of military hardware, encompassing training exercises, maintenance, upgrades, and other strategic areas of cooperation.

President Marcos welcomed the Czech initiative, emphasizing the Philippines' focus on transforming its economy, with agriculture being a key priority. The President also highlighted the critical importance of defense and security in the face of regional challenges, expressing gratitude for Czech Republic's assistance in maritime security initiatives.

The diplomatic relations between the Philippines and the Czech Republic, established in 1973, have paved the way for fruitful collaborations.

Czech Republic Prime Minister Petr Fiala's recent official visit to the Philippines further strengthened the bilateral ties between the two nations.

In terms of trade, the Czech Republic holds a significant position as the Philippines' 39th trading partner. Bilateral trade between the two countries amounted to US$303.21 million last year.

The collaboration is expected to enhance these trade relations further, opening new avenues for economic growth and cooperation.
