Magnitude 6.0 Quake Recorded in Masbate

Batuan Masbate – A magnitude 6.0 earthquake hit the town of Batuan in Masbate province early Thursday morning. The Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) recorded the earthquake at 2:10 am, with the epicenter located 6 kilometers northwest of Batuan.
According to Phivolcs, the earthquake was tectonic in origin, with a depth of 12 kilometers. It was felt at intensity 5 in Batuan, Masbate City, and Pio V. Corpuz, while intensity 4 was felt in nearby towns of Cawayan, San Fernando, and San Jacinto.
As a result of the earthquake, Masbate City Mayor Socrates Tuason declared the suspension of classes and government work across all levels in the city.
