Malacañang has declared April 21 a regular holiday in observance of Eid’l Fitr or the Feast of Ramadan.
This proclamation was made through Presidential Proclamation No. 201 dated April 14 and signed by Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin.
The declaration of April 21 as a regular holiday aims to allow the entire Filipino nation to join their Muslim brothers and sisters in peace and harmony in the observance and celebration of Eid'l Fitr.
The National Commission on Muslim Filipinos had recommended this declaration, recognizing the religious and cultural significance of Eid'l Fitr to the national consciousness.
Eid'l Fitr, also known as the Festival of Sweets, is one of the two official holidays celebrated within Islam. It marks the end of the month-long, dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan, during which Muslims refrain from eating and drinking from dawn till dusk.
The observance of Eid'l Fitr is a time for Muslims to come together, offer prayers, engage in acts of charity, and celebrate with feasts and festivities.
With the declaration of April 21 as a regular holiday for Eid'l Fitr, the Philippine government aims to foster inclusivity and respect for the Muslim community in the country.
