Malacañang announced that Friday, February 24, 2023 will be a special (non-working) holiday throughout the country. The announcement was made through Proclamation No. 167 signed by President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr. Thursday.
The proclamation stated that the decision was made in accordance with the principle of holiday economics, to allow Filipinos to enjoy a longer weekend. This follows the previous Proclamation No. 42, dated 22 August 2022, which declared 25 February 2023 (EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary) as a special non-working day throughout the country.
However, in order to enable people to take advantage of a longer weekend, the historical significance of the EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary will be maintained, but the celebration will be moved to 24 February 2023 (Friday).
President Marcos, Jr. emphasized the importance of preserving the historical significance of the EDSA People Power Revolution Anniversary, which marks the peaceful overthrow of the Marcos regime in 1986.
