President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. led the launching of the commemorative coin set for the 125th anniversary of Philippine Independence and Nationhood (APIN) at Malacañang on Monday. The event was attended by Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas (BSP) Gov. Felipe Medalla and other dignitaries.

During his remarks, President Marcos emphasized the significance of the event, stating that the establishment of a formal currency represents a country's sovereignty. He highlighted that the commemorative coin set not only serves as a souvenir but also symbolizes the creation of the Republic of the Philippines. Marcos expressed his admiration for the unique design of the coins, which he had never seen before.

The President further stressed that the coin set represents the technological advancements of the Philippines, indicating that the country is at the forefront and utilizes the best techniques and technologies available for its development. He commended all those involved in the project and congratulated them on their achievements.

The BSP issued the APIN coin set, which includes denominations of 100-Piso, 20-Piso, and 5-Piso. Each denomination commemorates a significant event in Philippine history: the 1898 declaration of Philippine Independence (100-Piso), the birth of the country's first republic at the Barasoain Church (20-Piso), and the bravery of Filipinos who fought for sovereignty during the Philippine-American War (5-Piso).

The BSP employed the latest digital printing technology to create the APIN coin set. These coins are the first colored, non-circulation, commemorative coins produced by the BSP, showcasing the country's technological progress.

The BSP will announce the availability of the APIN coin set for sale through its social media channels. Interested individuals can purchase the coins through the BSP Store website at https://bspstore.bsp.gov.ph.

Under the theme "Kalayaan, Kinabukasan, Kasaysayan" (Freedom, Future, History), the National Historical Commission of the Philippines (NHCP) will lead the 125th APIN celebration from 2023 to 2026. The commemoration aims to honor Philippine independence and nationhood while reflecting on the country's past, present, and future.
