QCPD Issues Apology, Launches Investigation On Viral Video
Screengrab from Teddy Casiño
The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) Police Station 14 has issued a public apology and initiated an investigation in response to a viral video uploaded by Teddy Casiño on X (formerly Twitter).
The video captured a traffic stop incident along Commonwealth Avenue, involving a police officer who halted the traffic flow due to a perceived VIP presence, which was later revealed to be based on misleading information.
In the official statement released by QCPD Police Station 14, they expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to the motoring public as a result of the traffic disruption along Commonwealth Avenue's westbound lanes.
According to the statement, the incident was attributed to a misunderstanding and lapse in judgment on the part of the police officer responsible for managing traffic during that period.
The incident was due to an overheard conversation that led to a reaction by Sgt. Pantollano, who mistakenly thought he heard the word "VP." Believing that Vice President Sara Duterte was passing through the area, he decided to clear the traffic as a gesture of courtesy and security.
However, subsequent records revealed that VP Sara Duterte had no scheduled engagement in that particular vicinity at the time.
Sgt. Pantollano, the officer in question, expressed his apologies, saying, "Ako po ay humihingi ng paumanhin sa aking maling nagawa. Patawarin nyo po ako, at akala ko po talaga may dadaan na VIP." (I apologize for my mistake. Please forgive me, as I genuinely thought there was a VIP passing through.)
Quezon City Police Station 14's Station Commander, PLtCol May Genio, clarified that the mention of VP Sara's name in the video came from the uploader, not from any official source or communication with the police.
Genio emphasized, "Pero Kung papanoorin po natin ang video, yung uploader ang nagbanggit ng pangalan na VP Sara." (If we watch the video, it was the uploader who mentioned the name VP Sara.)
As a response to the incident, PLtCol May Genio stated that Sgt. Pantollano has been relieved from his duties and placed under investigation to determine his administrative liability. Genio assured the public that such an incident would not occur again in the future.
In response to the incident, the Office of the Vice President (OVP) clarified that Vice President Sara Duterte was not involved in the traffic disruption caused by the road closure along Commonwealth Avenue. VP Sara Duterte was reported to be in Mindanao for World Teacher's Day and other activities at the time of the incident.
The OVP emphasized that Vice President Duterte never asked government agencies, including law enforcement bodies, to take actions that would inconvenience or harm the public.
The OVP called on QCPD to conduct a thorough investigation and hold all those responsible accountable for their actions, including the person who recorded and uploaded the video, alleging the involvement of the Vice President. They also requested that QCPD rectify the error and publicly disclose the VIP actually involved in the road closure.
