In a Finance Subcommittee B hearing on Thursday, October 19, 2023, Sen. Cynthia A. Villar expressed her satisfaction with the Department of Agrarian Reform (DAR), praising the agency for its efforts to empower agrarian reform beneficiaries (ARBs).

During the hearing on the proposed national budget of DAR, Villar commended the agency's dedication to providing justice to ARBs and supporting their organizations to enhance productivity and entrepreneurship, enabling them to become vibrant contributors to their communities.

DAR officials informed Villar that between January and October 2023, the agency had successfully distributed 17,379 titles covering 15,817 hectares, benefiting 16,843 ARBs. These efforts align with DAR's mission to empower beneficiaries and enhance their role in community development.

Villar emphasized her approval of DAR's proposed 2024 budget, which stands at P9.393 billion, representing a 17 percent reduction from the previous year's budget of 11.315 billion.

Despite the reduction, Villar voiced her confidence in the agency's ability to continue its impactful work, ensuring that ARBs receive the necessary support to thrive economically.

The hearing also delved into discussions about the proposed 2024 national budgets of other key agricultural agencies, including the National Irrigation Administration, Philippine Coconut Authority, National Dairy Authority, and the Philippine Carabao Center.
