In response to the Movie and Television Review and Classification Board's (MTRCB) preventive suspension order on December 18, 2023, SMNI intends to appeal the decision for its programs "Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa" and "Laban Kasama ang Bayan."
The suspension follows complaints about an alleged death threat made by a guest during the October 10, 2023, episode of "Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa."
A complaint about unverified news on the purported expenditure of PHP 1.8 billion in travel funds by House Speaker Martin Romualdez on the November 27, 2023, episode triggered the MTRCB's action.
House Deputy Minority Leader France Castro expressed relief, stating, "This suspension is long overdue, but at last, now something has been done to curtail constant red-tagging, spreading of disinformation (fake news), and threatening of individuals using these two shows as well as the network."
"We respect the decision of MTRCB. In fact, yesterday, we are studying our possible options, and we are planning to file a motion for reconsideration. Because, in the first place, it seems like what MTRCB is doing is preempting the decision of the DOJ with respect to the case of [former] President Duterte," said Atty. Mark Tolentino, SMNI legal counsel.
