The Antipolo City Police confirmed on Wednesday that the death of Grade 5 student Francis Jay Gumikib is not related to the recent incident where a teacher allegedly slapped the student. Investigations into the young boy's death have uncovered a different, underlying cause.

According to PBGEN. Constancio Chinayo, Director of the PNP Forensic Group, a comprehensive diagnostic examination indicated the presence of bleeding in the brain, swelling of the brain, and an incidental discovery of Pulmonary Tuberculosis in the left lung.

Furthermore, the results showed "Cerebral edema secondary to intracerebral hemorrhage consistent with ruptured arteriovenous malformation."

Explaining the medical findings, LT. COL. Maria Anna Lissa Dela Cruz, Chief Medico Legal Office of the PNP Forensic Group Rizal Provincial Field Unit, stated, "The cause of death is Cerebral edema, which is the swelling of the brain, and intracerebral hemorrhage, which is bleeding in the brain."

Meanwhile, the teacher allegedly involved in the earlier incident, which led to the suspension of the student, is currently suspended for 90 days pending further investigation by the Department of Education (DepEd).
