Thyromobile Launches Medical Mission in Pangasinan to Combat Iodine Deficiency
Dagupan City, Pangasinan - The Thyromobile Medical Mission, a collaborative effort between the Iodine Global Network, Philippine Thyroid Association, Thyroid Federation International, Rotary Club of University District Manila, Merck, Inc, Salinas Foods, Inc, Pangasinan Medical Society, and Dagupan Doctors Villaflor Memorial Hospital, was launched in Dagupan City, Pangasinan. This marks the first official medical mission of Thyromobile in one of the top 15 provinces identified by the DOST-Food & Nutrition Research Institute as an iodine-deficient area that affects women of reproductive age, particularly pregnant and lactating women.
Thyromobile provided free consultations and services to women of reproductive age. This included goiter screening, thyroid ultrasound, blood testing for thyroid hormone (TSH, FT4), and household salt testing for iodine levels. The goiter screening was conducted by Dr. Teofilo San Luis through physical examinations of the neck to determine if there was any enlargement in the thyroid. Merck, Inc organized the thyroid ultrasound and blood testing for thyroid hormone, while Salinas Foods, Inc facilitated the household salt testing for iodine levels using the WYD Iodine Checker, a machine that provides quantitative results of the iodine content of salt samples based on FDA standards ranging from 30-70 parts per million.

The Thyromobile Medical Mission Launch in Pangasinan was a significant event that aimed to address iodine deficiency in the area and provide much-needed medical services to pregnant and lactating women. The collaborative effort of various organizations and medical professionals underscores the importance of addressing nutritional deficiencies and promoting the well-being of vulnerable populations.
