The nation grieves the loss of another modern-day heroine. Leah Mosquera, a Filipina caregiver working in Rehovot, Israel, died following injuries sustained in a missile attack on June 15, 2025. The Department of Migrant Workers (DMW) and the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) confirmed her death with deep sorrow, offering condolences to her family and honoring her legacy.

Mosquera’s life was one of quiet service, spent caring for others far from home. Like many overseas Filipino workers (OFWs), she carried not just the weight of her duties abroad, but also the hopes and dreams of her family back in the Philippines. Her dedication exemplifies the strength, resilience, and sacrifice that define so many of our migrant workers.

The Department of Migrant Workers expressed its heartfelt sympathy to Mosquera’s loved ones. “Truly, OFW Leah’s dedication and quiet heroism embody the strength and sacrifices of our overseas Filipino workers who carry the hopes and dreams of their families, their communities, and our nation,” the statement read.

Following the directive of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., the DMW and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA), in coordination with the Philippine Embassy in Tel Aviv, are facilitating the repatriation of Mosquera’s remains. They will also cover burial costs, provide financial assistance to her family, and arrange travel for her sister, Mae Joy—who is also an OFW caregiver in Israel—to accompany her back home.

The Department of Foreign Affairs expressed similar sorrow in its own statement, thanking the medical teams who cared for Mosquera during her hospitalization, and acknowledging the support of the Filipino community in Israel during this difficult time.

In remembering Leah Mosquera, we honor not only her personal sacrifices but also those of countless Filipinos abroad who risk their safety to care for others. Her passing is a stark reminder of the dangers many OFWs face, especially in regions of conflict. The DFA reiterated its call for the protection of all civilians—especially migrant workers—during times of war and unrest.

Leah’s service and sacrifice will not be forgotten. She leaves behind a legacy of care, commitment, and quiet courage that will continue to inspire. She may have been far from home, but she was never far from the hearts of the people she served—and now, from the hearts of a grateful nation.
