A Symbol Of Pagmamalasakit: New Casualty Care Center Opens For Wounded Filipino Soldiers

Here’s something that will truly warm your heart.
In a powerful show of unity and care, One Meralco Foundation (OMF)—the corporate social responsibility arm of Meralco—has teamed up with the Congressional Spouses Foundation, Inc. (CSFI), PLDT-Smart Foundation, and Metro Pacific Investments Foundation to launch a life-changing facility for our wounded troops.
Located right at the heart of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Medical Center in Quezon City (better known as V. Luna General Hospital), the Bagong Bayaning Mandirigma Casualty Care Center (BBM CCC) is now ready to serve our modern-day heroes—Filipino soldiers injured in the line of duty.
The new center offers top-notch medical services including a minor operating room, a trauma and wound care unit, plus rooms and wards capable of treating up to 405 patients a month. That’s a huge upgrade in care, and it wouldn’t have been possible without the support of Meralco Industrial Engineering Services Corporation (MIESCOR) Logistics, who handled the renovation and construction of the facility.
“This is more than just a building—it’s a commitment,” said Meralco and OMF Chairman Manny V. Pangilinan. “This center stands as a powerful example of what public and private partnerships can achieve when we come together for our soldiers.”
But guess what? This is only Phase One of an even bigger dream. By mid-2025, the Cancer Care Center—the second phase of the Bagong Bayaning Mandirigma project—is expected to rise, backed by another MVP-led initiative, the Makati Medical Center Foundation.
For Brigadier General Jonna D. Dalaguit, Commander of the AFP Medical Center, this center represents something beyond just infrastructure. “This is what true collaboration looks like—working hand in hand to protect those who risk everything for us.”
Speaker of the House Martin Romualdez also welcomed the project with open arms. “This ensures that the heroes who guard our frontlines are not forgotten when they face their own battles—like injuries and illness,” he said.
CSFI Chairperson and Tingog Partylist Representative Yedda K. Romualdez echoed the same heartfelt sentiment, calling the project a “fitting recognition for the people whose lives are on the frontlines.” Meanwhile, CSFI President Baby Arenas simply put it this way: “Our soldiers are in good hands.”
OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao added a touching note: “Our mission to spread light and hope includes the brave men and women who keep us safe. This is our way of showing ‘pagmamalasakit’—compassion—to our modern-day heroes.”
This initiative isn’t just a one-time project. The BBM CCC joins the many community development efforts that OMF continues to lead—projects that aim to uplift lives and build stronger, more resilient communities within the Meralco franchise area.
Because at the end of the day, true service goes beyond the battlefield—and every hero deserves care, dignity, and hope.
