Agriculture Chief Tiu Laurel To Take Medical Leave; Assures Work Will Continue

Agriculture Secretary Francisco Tiu Laurel Jr. will be on medical leave for two weeks starting July 9, the Department of Agriculture (DA) announced on Tuesday.
According to the DA, Tiu Laurel is set to undergo a medical procedure that he had postponed when he assumed his post in November 2023.
In a statement, the secretary assured the public that the department’s programs and initiatives will continue to move forward despite his temporary absence.
“Even while I’m abroad for my medical leave, I will continue to monitor developments on the ground. Tuloy-tuloy lang ang trabaho (My work continues),” he said.
The department did not disclose details of the procedure. Tiu Laurel is expected to return on July 24, just in time for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s fourth State of the Nation Address.
While Tiu Laurel is away, DA Undersecretary Roger Navarro will serve as officer-in-charge.
The secretary’s leave runs from July 9 to 23.
