The stage is set for one of the most anticipated gatherings of young communicators in the country—the Communications Olympiad Grand Championship 2025—happening this June 27 at the Meralco headquarters in Pasig City.

After months of rigorous training and a nationwide elimination round, the top 15 student teams from universities across the Philippines are now preparing to showcase their skills in communication strategy, marketing, and public relations. This culminating event marks the high point of the Communications Olympiad, an initiative that empowers the next generation of communication leaders.

Organized by the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) Philippines, in partnership with the COMCO School of Communications and One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the Olympiad brings together bright, young minds with a shared passion for impactful storytelling and strategic thinking.

More than just a competition, the Olympiad has served as a learning platform—giving students opportunities to develop their craft, tackle real-world issues, and propose sustainable solutions. This year, the theme zeroes in on “Energy for Development,” encouraging participants to explore how communication can shape public understanding and drive action on key sustainability challenges.

One Meralco Foundation, the social development arm of the Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Meralco, is a proud supporter of this initiative. OMF President Jeffrey O. Tarayao, who also serves as a jury member for the championship, emphasized the importance of empowering youth through meaningful engagement.

“We believe that it is important for the Filipino youth to deepen their awareness in the many sustainable development challenges we face,” said Tarayao. “OMF is committed to enable platforms like this where they can share ideas and solutions they are thinking about.”

The top finalists hail from institutions nationwide, including Ateneo de Manila University, Baliuag University, De La Salle University (Manila and Dasmariñas), Far Eastern University, Laguna University, Mapúa University - Makati, Mindoro State University, National University - Dasmariñas, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Tarlac State University, University of Antique, University of the Cordilleras, University of the Philippines Visayas, and University of Saint Anthony in Iriga City, Camarines Sur.

Their journey has been anything but easy—marked by workshops, mentorship, and tough elimination rounds. But now, they stand ready for the grand championship, where only one team will emerge victorious.

In a formal partnership signing held earlier, key organizers and supporters—Joe R. Zaldarriaga (Chairman, IABC Philippines), Jeffrey O. Tarayao (President, OMF), Ferdinand L. Bondoy (Partner & Co-founder, COMCO Mundo League of Enterprises), and Belle Tiongco (President, IABC Philippines)—underscored their shared commitment to youth development and the role of strategic communication in nation-building.

As June 27 approaches, anticipation builds—not just among the finalists, but among educators, professionals, and advocates of the communication industry. The Communications Olympiad Grand Championship 2025 is more than a contest; it’s a celebration of potential, purpose, and the power of communication to shape the future.
