Angela Jackson Skips The College Route; Eyes Pro Volleyball Glory At Just 20

At just 20 years old, Angela Jackson is already breaking the mold.
While most volleyball players spend years honing their skills in the collegiate circuit before stepping onto the professional stage, Jackson is charting a different course. Forgoing the usual college route, she’s heading straight into the 2025 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Rookie Draft—making her the youngest player in this year’s 60-strong draft class.
It’s a bold move, but not a sudden one.
“This has always been the plan,” Jackson shared. “My mentor and I talked about going pro right after high school. But when the PVL introduced the age requirement of 21, we had to wait.”
Now, with her 21st birthday just around the corner, the timing finally feels right. The former University of the Philippines Integrated School (UPIS) standout, who also spent time in the UST training pool, is ready to take her shot—early, and unapologetically.
She admits the leap into the pro ranks isn’t without its challenges. Most of the other draftees are older, more seasoned, and have years of collegiate experience behind them. But Jackson isn’t letting that intimidate her.
“I try not to pressure myself too much. I know I’m the youngest, but I also see that as an advantage,” she explained. “There’s more room to grow, and more time to adapt. I expect myself to keep up.”
Jackson is confident that her skills—especially her blocking—will stand up in the PVL. But more than that, she’s banking on something that doesn’t show up on stat sheets: her work ethic.
“I’m very confident in my blocking. But beyond that, I know I’m hardworking,” she said. “Whatever expectations are set for me, I’ll work hard—very, very hard—to meet them.”
In a league filled with experience and star power, Angela Jackson is placing her bet on something else: potential. And with her drive and mindset, she just might prove that sometimes, going off the beaten path is exactly where the breakthrough begins.
