The Philippine Army has relieved Colonel Audie A. Mongao from his post as Commander of the Training Support Group under the Training Command (TRACOM) following an online statement that caught national attention. He has been placed in attached/unassigned status while the Army investigates the post and its implications.
Mongao reportedly said in his post that he is withdrawing his personal support for President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. In the widely circulated post, Mongao reportedly wrote:
“I, Col. Audie A. Mongao … am withdrawing my personal support to our President and Commander‑in‑Chief, Ferdinand ‘Bongbong’ Marcos Jr! Sobra na, tama na! The Filipino people is worth fighting for.”
Army officials said the move to relieve Mongao was made “by the direction of the Commanding General, Philippine Army” to ensure a thorough investigation. The Army is working to determine whether Mongao himself was responsible for the post and whether any military rules or laws were violated.
Major General Michael G. Logico, commander of TRACOM, confirmed that Mongao had been on New Year’s break when the post surfaced and that efforts to reach him have so far been unsuccessful. He added:
“Col Mongao is presently assigned with Training Command, Philippine Army and is currently on New Year's Break status. My Command has exerted all efforts to reach out to him but has so far been unsuccessful. Effective last night, I have relieved him from his post as Commander Training Support Group and is now placed attached/unassigned Office of the Commander Training Command. Investigation is underway to determine possible administrative and legal charges that may be imposed upon him in relation to his online statement. Nonetheless we are still reaching out to Col Mongao so that we may extend to him emotional support. He is still my responsibility. The Philippine Army remains professional and steadfast behind our mandate, loyal to the Constitution and the chain of command.”
The Army emphasized that while the investigation continues, it is still reaching out to Mongao to provide emotional support, highlighting the institution’s responsibility to its personnel. Officials have also reiterated the Armed Forces’ commitment to professionalism, discipline, and loyalty to the Constitution and chain of command, even as they review the matter.
No formal charges have been filed yet, but military authorities said Mongao could face administrative or legal consequences depending on the findings of the ongoing probe.
The post and the subsequent relief of Mongao have sparked conversation online and in some political circles, with discussions centering on the boundaries of military conduct and political neutrality.
