Arnell Ignacio Clears The Air: 'I Didn't Betray OFWs'
Arnell Ignacio
Former OWWA (Overseas Workers Welfare Administration) chief Arnell Ignacio is speaking up after questions arose about a ₱1.4-billion land deal under his watch. Amid the noise and speculations, Ignacio wants one thing to be clear: he stood by the OFWs the entire time.

According to Ignacio, the controversial deal wasn’t a one-man decision. It went through proper channels and was carefully reviewed by the agency’s Technical Working Group. It wasn’t something done in secret or rushed—it followed the process, he emphasized.

What stings most for Ignacio isn’t just the criticisms, but the missed opportunity. The deal was supposed to pave the way for a halfway house project right in front of NAIA Terminal 1. It would’ve provided a much-needed temporary shelter for OFWs coming home—something many have been asking for.

He expressed regret that the project didn’t push through, believing it could have been a huge help to the overseas workers who deserve more comfort and support after long journeys abroad.

For Ignacio, his conscience is clear. His intentions, he says, were always anchored on helping the OFW community—not turning his back on them.
