The Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) is on the brink of a significant moment as Bangsamoro Airways, the region's maiden airline venture, gears up for its inaugural flight scheduled on April 24, 2024.

Under the stewardship of Federal Airways, Bangsamoro Airways sets its sights on connecting mainland BARMM with its island provinces, streamlining essential services, fortifying administrative efficiency and logistical capabilities, and propelling economic growth, tourism, and job opportunities within the region.

During an interview with Bangsamoro Board of Investments (BBOI) Chairperson Mohammad Pasigan on Tuesday, April 16, Pasigan unveiled the airline's initial routes, which will link Zamboanga and Sulu Province, boasting a passenger capacity of six to ten individuals, inclusive of pilots.

Expansion strategies encompass the provision of services to the municipalities of Sibutu and Mapun in Tawi-Tawi after three months of operation, with Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia, slated for inclusion within a year.

Pasigan underscored that the launch of the airline is poised to allure more investors to the autonomous region, paving the way for sustained investment influx.

According to BBOI reports, BARMM has already attracted over P3.7 billion in investments, surpassing the office's 2024 target of P2.7 billion as of April 2024. These investments span various sectors, including Islamic banking, tourism, agriculture, marine, and industrial domains, culminating in the creation of 1,155 job opportunities across the region.

BBOI extends an invitation to investors to explore opportunities within BARMM, contributing to both regional and national economic advancement in alignment with mandates articulated in the Bangsamoro Administrative Code. The office provides incentives in accordance with the Corporate Recovery and Tax Incentives for Enterprise (CREATE) law, aimed at reducing corporate income tax rates.

Furthermore, Bangsamoro Airways has collaborated with the Bangsamoro Airport Authority (BAA) under the Ministry of Transportation and Communication (MOTC) in Cotabato City to ensure regulatory compliance and procedural efficacy prior to takeoff.

Pasigan emphasized the readiness of Bangsamoro Airways to serve any neighboring province within BARMM promptly, offering convenient and cost-effective transportation alternatives.

He reiterated the imperative of upholding peace and order to foster an environment conducive to investor confidence in the autonomous region.

"As Bangsamoro citizens, our paramount duty is to uphold peace and security in our region for the benefit of investors," he urged fellow Bangsamoro to champion a conflict-free environment.

The endeavor to fortify the BARMM economy by leveraging its inherent strengths and investing in transportation and communication resonates with the third to fifth priority agenda of Bangsamoro Chief Minister Ahod Ebrahim.
