Bong Go Calls On Filipinos To Pray As Cardinals Get Ready To Elect The Next Pope

As the world’s eyes turn to the Vatican this May 7, Senator Bong Go is urging Filipinos to pause, reflect, and say a prayer.
With 133 cardinal-electors preparing to gather in the Sistine Chapel for the sacred task of choosing the next pope, Go reminded everyone that this isn’t just a Catholic event—it’s a moment that resonates with people of all faiths who value peace, compassion, and unity.
“We’re mourning the loss of Pope Francis, a humble and inspiring leader,” said Go. “But we’re also entering a time of prayerful anticipation. I invite every Filipino to pray that the cardinal-electors are guided by the Holy Spirit in choosing the next shepherd of the Church.”
And yes, there’s a reason for Filipinos to feel especially connected to this global moment—three Filipino cardinals will be part of the conclave. Cardinal Luis Antonio Tagle will be helping oversee preparations, while Cardinals Pablo Virgilio David and Jose Advincula will be among those casting their vote.
“For us, this is more than just representation,” Go said proudly. “Our cardinals are carrying the faith, the voice, and the hopes of the Filipino people into one of the most sacred decision-making processes in the world.”
Go also paid tribute to Pope Francis, who passed away on April 21. The late pontiff led the Church for more than a decade, known for his advocacy for the poor, his humility, and his efforts to build bridges across different faiths.
“Pope Francis showed us how leadership rooted in love and service can truly change the world,” Go reflected. “As we say goodbye, we also look ahead with hope.”
With just days to go before the conclave begins, all eyes will be on the Vatican—and the chimney above the Sistine Chapel. Once white smoke appears, the world will know a new pope has been chosen.
Until then, Senator Go hopes Filipinos will stay united in prayer.
“This is a moment to come together—not just as Catholics, but as people of faith. Let’s pray for a new leader who will guide the Church with wisdom and heart. And let’s pray for a better world, inspired by peace, compassion, and faith.”
