Br. Armin Luistro Appointed To Key Vatican Post Guiding Religious Life

Pope Leo XIV has appointed Br. Armin Luistro FSC, former De La Salle University president and current Superior General of the Brothers of the Christian Schools, as one of the newest members of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.
This Vatican office plays a vital role in overseeing the life and mission of religious communities around the world. From formation and governance to the approval of constitutions and even the creation or dissolution of religious institutes, the dicastery is tasked with supporting the Church’s consecrated life in all its complexity and diversity. It ensures that the evangelical counsels—poverty, chastity, and obedience—continue to be lived faithfully by religious men and women across the globe.
Br. Armin joins 18 other newly appointed members, including several cardinals and leaders from various continents, in serving under the leadership of Sister Simona Brambilla, a Consolata Missionary and the first woman to head a major Vatican dicastery.
This appointment comes as a meaningful affirmation of Br. Armin’s longstanding commitment to education, service, and religious life. Since his election as Superior General of the De La Salle Brothers in 2022, he has served as the global head of the congregation founded by St. John Baptist de La Salle, becoming the first Asian to hold that role.
His experience as an educator and Church leader spans decades—both as president of De La Salle University and De La Salle Philippines, and as the former Secretary of Education in the Philippines. This new role adds a deeply ecclesial dimension to his lifelong vocation of forming minds and hearts in service of faith.
As Br. Armin takes on this new responsibility, we join the Lasallian family and the wider Church in prayer and support, trusting that his leadership will bring wisdom, compassion, and vision to the important work of the dicastery.
