In a dramatic and unexpected announcement, the United States says it has carried out a large-scale military and law enforcement operation in Venezuela that resulted in the capture of President Nicolás Maduro and his wife — and their removal from the country.

The U.S. government says the mission was conducted jointly with American law enforcement agencies, though details remain limited early this morning.

Multiple explosions were reported across Caracas, the Venezuelan capital. Residents described the sound of low-flying aircraft and what appeared to be heavy attacks on both civilian and military targets.

The Maduro administration wasted no time in responding, accusing the United States of launching an “imperialist attack” and urging Venezuelans to take to the streets in protest.

President Donald Trump — who posted the initial U.S. statement on Truth Social — teased more information to come:

“Details to follow. There will be a News Conference today at 11 A.M., at Mar-a-Lago. Thank you for your attention to this matter!”

As the story continues to unfold, global attention is fixed on Caracas and Washington, where officials are preparing to speak publicly later today
