Dismissed Police Officer-Turned-Vlogger Francis Fontillas Arrested Over Sedition Charges Tied To Social Media Posts

Former police officer and vlogger Francis Steve Fontillas has been arrested following the issuance of a warrant by the Quezon City Regional Trial Court Branch 224.
The arrest stems from a complaint filed against Fontillas for inciting to sedition, in connection with his social media posts criticizing the reported arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte by the International Criminal Court (ICC) in March.
According to court records, a bail of ₱36,000 was recommended for his temporary release.
Fontillas, who previously gained attention online for his commentary and content as a police vlogger, was earlier dismissed from the Philippine National Police. His recent online statements—seen by authorities as potentially inflammatory—have now led to formal legal proceedings.
This case highlights the continuing tension between online expression and national security concerns, especially when former public officials use social media platforms to influence public sentiment.
The court has yet to set a hearing date for the case.
