DOF Backs Extension Of Estate Tax Amnesty To 2028

The Department of Finance (DOF) has thrown its support behind House Bill 6614, a proposal that seeks to extend the country’s Estate Tax Amnesty program until December 31, 2028. The move aims to give more Filipino families the chance to finally settle long-pending obligations tied to inherited properties.

Under the National Internal Revenue Code (NIRC), estate tax is a one-time payment required to legally transfer a deceased person’s assets to their rightful heirs. However, many families have struggled to complete the process due to financial limitations, incomplete documents, or decades-old property issues.

By supporting the amnesty extension, the DOF says it hopes to ease these burdens and help households formalize property transfers that have been left unresolved.

According to the agency, the extended amnesty will “grant relief to families unable to formalize inheritance because of financial and other constraints.”

If passed, the measure would give families nearly three more years to take advantage of reduced penalties and a simplified process for settling estate tax dues.
