Get ready, Avatar: The Last Airbender fans — two powerhouse Filipino talents are joining the Netflix live-action series, and we couldn’t be more excited.

Award-winning actress Dolly de Leon is set to appear in Season 2 of the hit show, and she’s taking on not just one, but two roles — the Fire Nation twin advisers Lo and Li, who are closely connected to the fiery and cunning Princess Azula. If you know anything about de Leon’s work, you already know she’s going to bring some serious intensity and depth to the screen.

Meanwhile, fellow Filipino pride and veteran actor Jon Jon Briones is coming in hot for Season 3 as the skilled swordsman Piandao, a key character who trains Sokka in the art of the sword. If you’ve seen Briones in Ratched or The Assassination of Gianni Versace, you know this casting is chef’s kiss.

They’ll be joining Gordon Cormier, the Canadian-Filipino actor playing our beloved bald airbender Aang, in what’s shaping up to be an even more star-studded continuation of the series.

Also joining the cast are:
• Tantoo Cardinal as the mysterious waterbender Hama
• Terry Chen as the firebending master Jeong Jeong
• Lily Gao as Ursa, Zuko and Azula’s mother
• Madison Hu as Fei, a new character
• Dichen Lachman as Avatar Yangchen

With this kind of casting power, it looks like Avatar: The Last Airbender is only getting bigger and better. And with talents like de Leon and Briones onboard, representation is not just happening — it’s thriving.
