DOTr Lauds LGU Support For NSCR Project

The Department of Transportation (DOTr) recently cited the “vital role” that local government unit (LGU) officials play in the country’s bid to speed up the completion of important transportation infrastructure project, particularly the North South Commuter Railway (NSCR).

The department is “elated by the all-out support and cooperation” it has received from LGU leaders, especially in addressing rights-of-way (ROWs) issues and in the implementation of relocation programs for informal settlers living along the route of the Philippine National Railways (PNR).

The DOTr cited in particular the efforts by mayors of LGUs along the NSCR route to ensure that barangay leaders cooperate with the national government line agencies in clearing the PNR ROWs. The NSCR will use the said PNR ROWs for wider and more modern tracks where its high- speed trains will pass.

The DOTr also said LGU heads are also ensuring that construction crews of private contractors involved in the NSCR project are able to safely access areas located within their jurisdiction and begin work.

“With LGU leaders fully behind the NSCR, we can work more efficiently and raise the level of possibility that we can finish the project on time,” the DOTr said.

Once completed, the 147-kilometer NSCR will connect Calamba City to the New Clark City and will pass through several points in the National Capital Region. It will feature an airport express service which is expected to cut the travel time to the Clark International Airport by more than half.
