Entry Into Kanlaon's 6-Kilometer Danger Zone Suspended During Daylight Hours Starting June 24
Phivolcs File
Effective 24 June 2025, the entry of individuals into the 6-kilometer Extended Danger Zone (EDZ) around Kanlaon Volcano between 6:00 AM and 4:00 PM is suspended until further notice. This decision is based on the latest monitoring data released by DOST-PHIVOLCS, covering observations from 5:00 AM on 22 June to 5:00 AM on 23 June 2025.
According to the bulletin, a total of sixty-seven (67) volcanic earthquakes were detected within the 24-hour observation window. In addition, sulfur dioxide (SO₂) emissions were measured at 755 tonnes per day on 22 June, indicating continued degassing activity. A voluminous volcanic plume reaching up to 950 meters high was also observed, drifting northeast and north-northeast.
Given these elevated parameters, the volcano remains in a state of unrest, prompting authorities to tighten access restrictions. The suspension specifically affects activities such as farming and other essential work previously allowed within the EDZ during daylight hours.
Local government units, communities surrounding the volcano, and all concerned stakeholders are advised to strictly comply with this directive for safety. PHIVOLCS continues to closely monitor Kanlaon’s activity and will issue further advisories as necessary.
