Estomo Breaks Silence; Denies Link To Missing Sabungeros Case

Retired Police Lieutenant General Jonnel Estomo on Tuesday firmly denied allegations implicating him in the case of the missing sabungeros (cockfight enthusiasts), following claims made by whistleblower Julie Patidongan, also known as “Totoy.”
In a statement sent to reporters covering Camp Crame, Estomo stressed that he respects the ongoing pursuit of justice for the families of those who have disappeared.
“Nirerespeto ko ang tawag ng katarungan hinggil sa issue ng Missing Sabungeros at sa karapatan ng kanilang mga mahal sa buhay na malaman ang tunay na nangyari at makamit ang hustisya,” Estomo said.
Estomo was previously at the helm of the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) and is among the most senior former police officials now being mentioned in connection with the high-profile case. However, he categorically denied having any role in the disappearances.
“I categorically deny my involvement in any manner and I will present evidence to clear my name,” he stated. “Ang pag-uugnay sa aking pangalan ay walang sapat na patunay, and while I won’t get ahead of any investigation, naniniwala ako na dapat ang katotohanan lamang – at hindi sa salita na galing sa iba – ang mananaig sa paghahanap ng katarungan.”
Estomo emphasized his readiness to face any inquiry in the proper legal venue, making it clear that he intends to defend his name and reputation through due process.
His statement comes amid renewed public scrutiny of the sabungeros case, which has remained unresolved for years, with multiple law enforcement and civilian figures now being scrutinized as investigations continue to unfold.
