The Manila Regional Trial Court Branch 51 has denied the motion filed by the legal team of former Negros Oriental Representative Arnolfo "Arnie" Teves Jr., who had requested to remain in the custody of the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).
In the court's official resolution, it was clearly stated that the request was denied, and instead, a commitment order was issued directing the transfer of the former lawmaker to a different detention facility.
Based on the order, Teves is to be moved to Camp Bagong Diwa in Taguig City, a facility under the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP). This development marks a significant shift in the handling of his detention, as he will now be placed in a standard jail environment, unlike the more secure and isolated conditions at the NBI.
The court’s decision underscores its stance on ensuring proper detention protocols are followed, especially for high-profile individuals facing serious charges. While Teves’ camp has expressed security concerns in the past, the judge maintained that detention under the BJMP is sufficient and appropriate.
Further legal actions from Teves' side may still be anticipated, but as of now, preparations for his transfer are underway.
