The Francis Scott Key Bridge in Baltimore in the United States collapsed following a collision with a container ship, prompting a swift response from emergency services and authorities.

Mayor Brandon Scott has declared a state of emergency in the city in response to the incident.

Mayor Scott, invoking his authority under Section 14-111 of the Public Safety Article of the Annotated Code of Maryland, issued an executive order to address the aftermath of the collapse.

The order includes activating Baltimore City's emergency operations plan to manage the search and rescue efforts, structural damage, and transportation disruptions resulting from the collapse.

The collapse has triggered a coordinated response from multiple agencies. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) is deploying a "go team" to investigate the cause of the collapse, while the FBI's Baltimore division has assured the public that there is currently no specific and credible information linking the incident to terrorism.

The declaration of a state of emergency goes into effect immediately and will remain in force for thirty days, subject to renewal or cancellation based on evolving circumstances.
