From Beats To Bullets: Rapper 'Slick One' Busted For Gunrunning In Malabon

Once known for his rhymes and viral tracks, rapper “Slick One” has landed in hot water—this time not for a diss track, but for allegedly dealing firearms in the streets of Malabon.

Rovi, a former member of the local hip-hop group Breezy Boys, was arrested in a buy-bust operation by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) on May 9 in Barangay Tonsuya. He was caught red-handed after selling a .38 caliber revolver to an undercover cop posing as a buyer.

CIDG chief Maj. Gen. Nicolas Torre III confirmed the arrest, revealing that Slick One—once a rising artist with a strong social media following—now works as a delivery driver, a job allegedly used as a cover for his illegal gunrunning activities.

Another man was arrested alongside the rapper, reportedly a signage installer by trade. Torre said both suspects are part of a newly-identified gunrunning group operating in northern Metro Manila.

“This operation helped prevent potential violence that could have resulted from these loose firearms ending up in the wrong hands,” Torre stated. He praised the team for the swift and effective bust.

Charges have already been filed against the suspects for violations of RA 10591 (Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act) and BP 881 (Omnibus Election Code)—with the added weight of the election gun ban in place.

What’s more alarming, Torre said, is a growing trend: some delivery riders are now being used as unsuspecting—or sometimes willing—couriers of illegal goods. “It’s a concerning loophole that criminals are exploiting,” he warned. “This needs to be addressed immediately.”

As for Slick One, the mic has gone silent—and his next performance might just be in a courtroom.
