Fuel Rollback Brings Relief After Sharp Hikes; Oil Firms To Cut Pump Prices This Week
FILE
After last week's sharp increase in fuel prices, oil companies are set to roll back pump rates starting Tuesday — a welcome development for motorists and commuters alike.
In separate advisories issued on Monday, major players PetroGazz, CleanFuel, Seaoil, and Shell confirmed they will reduce prices for both diesel and gasoline. Diesel will drop by PHP1.80 per liter, while gasoline will see a rollback of PHP1.40 per liter. Seaoil and Shell are also cutting kerosene prices by PHP2.20 per liter.
This follows a steep price hike just a week earlier, where gasoline surged by PHP3.50 per liter, diesel by PHP5.20, and kerosene by PHP4.80. That increase was implemented gradually to soften its impact on consumers, many of whom are already navigating rising costs of living.
To further ease the burden, the Department of Energy (DOE) announced over the weekend that several oil firms are also offering fuel discounts specifically for public utility vehicles (PUVs) and transport network vehicle service (TNVS) drivers.
Petron is providing discounts ranging from 50 centavos to PHP3 per liter for PUVs through its Super Driver Card program. Shell, under its Public Transport Discount Program, will give PHP1 to PHP5 per liter discounts to PUVs, and PHP2 to PHP3 discounts for TNVS drivers.
Starting July 1, CleanFuel will offer PHP1 off per liter of diesel and PHP2 off per liter of gasoline for PUJ drivers and non-operator taxi drivers through its Cleanfuel Pasada Card. Caltex is also extending its support through the StarDriver program, with PHP2.50 off on motor gas, PHP1.50 off on diesel, and PHP10 discounts for lubricants.
While fluctuations in global oil prices continue to affect local pump rates, these rollbacks and targeted support programs aim to offer at least some relief — especially for those whose livelihoods depend on affordable fuel.
