Heads Up, It's Habagat Season! Southwest Monsoon Officially Begins In PH
Hey, Philippines — it’s official. Habagat is here!

According to the latest update from DOST-PAGASA, those strong southwesterly winds blowing in over the western parts of Luzon, combined with the frontal system lingering up north, signal the start of the Southwest Monsoon — also known to us as Habagat. And with the Easterlies finally stepping aside, this marks the beginning of that familiar stretch of wet days and occasional downpours.

So what does this mean for us?

Expect more frequent rains and thunderstorms, especially in areas facing the west — like Metro Manila, parts of Luzon, and even sections of Visayas and Mindanao. It won’t be all-day rain just yet, but we’re definitely inching closer to the official onset of the rainy season, which PAGASA says could be declared within the next two weeks.

But don’t be surprised if we get short dry spells too — that’s what meteorologists call monsoon breaks. These can happen even when Habagat is active.

PAGASA is keeping a close watch on things, so stay tuned for their updates. And as always, stay safe — watch out for floods and landslides, especially if you’re in low-lying or mountainous areas.

For questions or the latest forecasts, you can reach PAGASA’s Weather Forecasting Section at 8284-0800 local 4801.

Umbrellas up and keep those rain boots ready — Habagat season has officially kicked off!
