Honoring PNoy: Memorial Lecture Series Launched; Leila De Lima Delivers Inaugural Talk

To honor the legacy of the late President Benigno Simeon “Noynoy” Aquino III, the Ninoy and Cory Aquino Foundation (NCAF), together with the Ateneo School of Government, Dr. Rosita G. Leong School of Social Sciences, and the School of Humanities, officially launched the President Benigno S. Aquino III Memorial Lecture on Leadership and Democracy today, June 24.
This annual event aims to celebrate PNoy’s enduring contributions to good governance, public service, and democracy.
Kicking off the inaugural lecture is ML Partylist Representative Leila de Lima, former Justice Secretary under the Aquino administration. Her talk, titled “Ang sa Pilipinas ay sa Pilipinas”, focused on President Aquino’s firm stand in defending the Philippines’ maritime rights in the South China Sea.
De Lima recalled Aquino’s unwavering commitment to uphold the country’s sovereignty, especially in bringing the landmark case against China before the Permanent Court of Arbitration—a move that led to the Philippines’ historic legal victory in 2016.
The lecture series is expected to become a yearly platform for reflecting on leadership values that PNoy championed, and for inspiring the next generation to continue the fight for justice, integrity, and national dignity.
