Jhonard Clarito’s game might not always command headlines, but last week, his performance spoke volumes—and the PBA Press Corps took notice.

Clarito was named the PBA Press Corps–Pilipinas Live Player of the Week for June 18 to 22, a recognition earned through sheer effort and heart as he helped Rain or Shine Elasto Painters complete a dramatic quarterfinal upset and secure a spot in the semifinals of the 49th Season Philippine Cup.

Facing a twice-to-beat disadvantage against the No. 2-seeded NLEX Road Warriors, Clarito anchored Rain or Shine with back-to-back double-double outings. He averaged 16.5 points and a staggering 18.5 rebounds across two elimination games—numbers that reflect more than just production, but also persistence.

The week opened with Clarito turning in one of the most memorable individual performances in recent memory: 20 points and 21 rebounds in a nail-biting 92–89 win over NLEX on June 18. It was a rare 20-20 outing, particularly notable given Clarito’s size and role, and it placed him in elite company among the smallest players in PBA history to achieve such a feat.

Clarito didn’t let up. He followed it up with 13 points and 16 rebounds in a 103–92 clincher on June 22—sealing Rain or Shine’s rise from a No. 7 seed to a Final Four ticket.

His effort was not lost on head coach Yeng Guiao, who underscored the kind of impact Clarito made—not just statistically, but emotionally and mentally on the team.

“Si Jhonard, kita natin 'yung effort niya, buwis-buhay talaga eh,” Guiao said. “Any coach would appreciate the effort they put up, not just him but the rest of the guys.”

With the upset complete, Rain or Shine now heads to a familiar battleground—another semifinal clash with TNT, continuing a rivalry that has taken shape over the past two seasons.

Clarito edged out other standout performers during the week, including TNT’s RR Pogoy, Barangay Ginebra’s Japeth Aguilar, San Miguel’s June Mar Fajardo, and even teammate Santi Santillan for the weekly honor.

But this time, it wasn’t star power that won the week—it was grit. And in the heart of that surge stood Jhonard Clarito, a player who continues to prove that hustle, when consistent and committed, can shape the outcome of a season.
