Talk about making history!
Young runner Jhul lan Cañalita just pulled off an amazing feat at the Palarong Pambansa, setting a brand-new record in the secondary boys 5,000-meter run. He clocked in at a jaw-dropping 15 minutes and 16.31 seconds — beating a record that has stood tall since 1998! Yes, that’s right — 26 years!
The old mark of 15:38.4 was held by Cresencio Cabal, and for more than two decades, no one could come close… until now. Cañalita not only broke the record, he completely shattered it with a gap of over 22 seconds — which, in track terms, is a big deal.
This new record is more than just numbers. It’s a sign that the new generation of Filipino athletes is stepping up and aiming higher. Cañalita’s performance is sure to inspire more young runners to chase greatness — and maybe, just maybe, set their own records someday too.
