MANILA — June Mar Fajardo is once again reminding everyone why he stands alone in PBA history.

The San Miguel Beer star delivered another commanding performance in the PBA Philippine Cup semifinals, powering the defending champions to a crucial 93–84 bounce-back win over Barangay Ginebra in Game 2 on Wednesday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum. The victory tied the best-of-seven series at one game apiece.

Fajardo was simply unstoppable, finishing with 21 points and a massive 23 rebounds to record his second straight 20-20 game in the series. It followed his equally eye-catching 27-point, 23-rebound outing in Game 1, a performance that came despite San Miguel’s opening loss.

With those numbers, the 6-foot-10 Cebuano became the first player in 27 years to post back-to-back 20-20 games in the league, according to PBA chief statistician Fidel Mangonon III. The last to do it was Eric Menk during his rookie season with Tanduay in the 1999 All-Filipino Cup.

More impressively, this marks Fajardo’s third consecutive 20-20 performance, dating back to his 26-point, 23-rebound showing against NLEX in the quarterfinals on Christmas Day. That feat made the nine-time MVP the first local player in PBA history to accomplish such a run.

Through the semifinals, Fajardo is averaging an imposing 24.0 points and 23.0 rebounds per game, further strengthening his case in the race for Best Player of the Conference honors.

With the series now even, all eyes turn to Game 3 on Friday at the Big Dome, where fans will be watching closely to see if Fajardo can continue his dominant stretch and tilt the series in San Miguel’s favor.
