CEBU CITY — A landslide struck the Binaliw landfill on Wednesday, prompting the immediate deployment of disaster response teams as authorities worked to secure the area and assist those affected.
Cebu City Mayor Nestor Archival confirmed the incident in an official statement, saying first responders were sent out right away to conduct rescue operations and assess the situation. Initial reports indicate that several individuals may have been trapped, with medical and emergency teams already on site.
“I am closely monitoring the situation and will personally go to the Binaliw landfill as soon as possible to check the condition on the ground and coordinate the next actions,” the mayor said.
Officials urged residents to remain calm and to temporarily avoid the area to allow emergency teams to operate without disruption. The city government also assured the public that official and verified updates would be released through its authorized channels as more information becomes available.
Rescue and assessment operations remain ongoing as authorities work to determine the extent of the damage and ensure public safety.
