LRT-1 Fare Hike Starts April 2: Here's What You Need To Know

Commuters, take note. Starting April 2, 2025, Light Rail Manila Corporation (LRMC) will implement new fares for LRT-1, following approval from the Department of Transportation (DOTr). While fare hikes are never fun news for daily riders, LRMC assures that this adjustment is necessary to keep the train system running smoothly and safely.
Why the Fare Increase?
According to LRMC President and CEO Enrico R. Benipayo, maintaining and upgrading the 40-year-old LRT-1 system requires continuous investment. He pointed out that this is only the second fare adjustment in the last 10 years, despite the expansion and improvements made to the railway.
“We are thankful to our partners in government for supporting sustainable upgrades. Since 2015, LRMC has introduced new trains, upgraded stations, and improved service efficiency. Last November 2024, we also completed Phase 1 of the Cavite Extension Project, making LRT-1 more accessible to more commuters,” Benipayo said.
How Much Are the New LRT-1 Fares?
Here’s a breakdown of the new fare scheme approved by the DOTr’s Rail Regulatory Unit (RRU):
• Boarding fare: Php 16.25
• Distance fare: Php 1.47 per kilometer
• Stored Value Card (SVC) fares: Range from Php 16 to Php 52
• Single Journey Ticket (SJT) fares: Range from Php 20 to Php 55
LRT-1: Still One of the Fastest Commutes in Metro Manila
Despite the fare increase, LRT-1 remains one of the quickest and most efficient ways to get around the metro. LRMC has consistently achieved 100% reliability, punctuality, and availability in its operations. In fact, travel time has improved, with the total roundtrip cycle reduced from 106 minutes in 2015 to 91 minutes in 2024.
Benipayo reassures commuters that every peso spent on LRT-1 fares is an investment in better service. “We remain committed to giving people back their time through efficient transport and making every LRT-1 ride worth it,” he added.
