LTFRB Gives Green Light To 829 PUVs For May 12 Elections-More Rides, Less Hassle

Heads up, commuters and voters, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) just announced something that could make getting to your polling precinct a whole lot easier this May 12.
LTFRB Chairperson Teofilo Guadiz III confirmed that 829 public utility vehicles (PUVs) have been granted special permits to operate beyond their usual routes for the upcoming national mid-term elections. These permits will be valid from May 9 to 18, 2025—just in time to help manage the expected surge in commuters on election day.
Out of 880 applications received, the LTFRB approved 829. Why the need for this move? Chair Guadiz explained, “We are expecting more movement from the public who will be going to their respective precincts to cast their votes, so we opened the application for special permits.”
Simply put, more voters heading out means more rides are needed. And since May 12 is a national holiday, the LTFRB wants to make sure no one gets stuck waiting for a ride when they should be making their voices heard at the polls.
“This is all part of our mandate to ensure safe, efficient, and convenient transportation for our commuters,” Guadiz added.
So if you’re planning to vote on May 12, you might just find a PUV headed your way—even if it’s not their usual route.
