MANILA, Philippines — Starting today, January 2, 2026, the Land Transportation Office (LTO) is strictly enforcing its ban on e-trikes along major Metro Manila roads. The goal? To make traffic safer and smoother for everyone.

E-trikes will no longer be allowed on busy highways like EDSA, C-5, Roxas Boulevard, and the stretch from Quirino Avenue to Magallanes leading to SLEX. The LTO says these roads are meant for faster, heavier vehicles, and mixing them with slower e-trikes just isn’t safe.

The agency stressed that this isn’t about taking away people’s daily rides. Instead, it’s working with local governments to find safer routes where e-trikes can still operate.

Drivers who ignore the rules could face fines or even have their e-trikes impounded, according to the Land Transportation and Traffic Code (RA 4136) and Joint Administrative Order 2014-01. Law enforcers are already out on the roads to guide motorists and ensure compliance.

The LTO also appealed to everyone to cooperate and follow the rules, reminding the public that safe roads start with everyone doing their part.
