LTO Cracks Down On Tagaytay Street Racers; Sports Cars Placed Under Alarm Following Viral Video

In line with President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.’s directive to take firm action against reckless motorists, the Land Transportation Office (LTO), under the leadership of Department of Transportation (DOTr) Secretary Vince Dizon, has launched a crackdown on individuals involved in an alarming street racing incident in Tagaytay City.
The incident, which went viral on social media, showed six high-performance sports cars speeding along a public road—raising serious safety concerns. In response, the LTO has placed all six vehicles under alarm, meaning they cannot be sold or transferred while the investigation is ongoing.
“We are now in the process of identifying the drivers involved in this dangerous act,” said LTO Acting Chief Atty. Greg Pua. “This is not just about violating traffic laws—it’s about endangering lives on public roads.”
The vehicles involved include two Mazda MX-5s, a Ford Mustang, a Nissan Z, a Chevrolet Camaro, and a BMW M4. Show cause orders (SCOs) have already been issued to their registered owners, who are now required to appear before the LTO to explain their side and present the individuals who were actually behind the wheel.
“It’s possible the owners themselves were the drivers, or they allowed someone else to use their vehicles. Either way, there’s no escaping accountability—there’s clear video evidence,” Pua emphasized.
He added that racing on public roads is a blatant misuse of government infrastructure meant to provide safe and efficient transportation for all. “There are proper venues for racing. Public roads are not among them,” he said.
According to LTO Intelligence and Investigation Chief Renante Melitante, the registered owners are also being asked to show why they should not be held liable for reckless driving and why they should not be deemed improper persons to operate a motor vehicle. Once the actual drivers are identified, a 90-day license suspension will be enforced immediately.
In addition to identifying the drivers, the owners must also present registration documents and other paperwork related to the vehicles for review.
“This should be a clear warning,” Pua stated. “We will not tolerate this kind of behavior on our roads—whether you’re driving a sports car, a motorcycle, or even a tricycle. Follow the rules, drive responsibly, and you won’t have to worry about consequences from the LTO.”
This firm stance by the LTO highlights a broader effort by the government to promote road safety and ensure accountability, regardless of a driver’s status or the type of vehicle they use.
