FILE
Malacañang confirmed today, July 10, that President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has appointed two new members of his Cabinet, bringing experienced communicators and public servants into key posts.
Dave Gomez, a veteran journalist and former government information official, has been named Secretary of the Presidential Communications Office (PCO), Palace Press Officer and Undersecretary Claire Castro announced. Gomez previously worked as a reporter for The Philippine Star and also served as Director General of the Philippine Information Agency.
His appointment signals the administration’s continued focus on professionalizing government communication and strengthening public engagement. Gomez will take over from Jay Ruiz, who has been serving in an acting capacity at the PCO. Ruiz, a former broadcast journalist himself, will transition to a new role as a member of the Board of Directors of the Manila Economic and Cultural Office (MECO).
In a separate appointment, the President named Sharon Garin as the new Secretary of the Department of Energy (DOE). Garin is expected to bring her expertise and fresh perspective to the department as it tackles the country’s ongoing energy challenges and transition to more sustainable sources.
The Palace has yet to release the dates for the official oath-taking ceremonies of the newly appointed officials. These appointments come amid the administration’s efforts to recalibrate its team in line with its policy priorities and communication strategy.
