President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. reiterated the looming deadline of April 30 for the consolidation of public transportation under the government's modernization program. Highlighting the urgency of the situation, Marcos emphasized the need for compliance, particularly in addressing the proliferation of colorum vehicles.

In a statement, Marcos expressed surprise at the scale of the colorum problem, revealing that nearly 30% of operating vehicles were found to be unregistered. "The biggest problem we face is the rampant operation of colorum vehicles. I was unaware of the extent of this issue until now," he stated.

To tackle this issue head-on, Marcos announced plans to hand over the responsibility to enforce regulations on colorum vehicles to the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG). He emphasized the role of the police in enforcement and ensuring that proper franchising is in place, urging cooperation from transport groups and operators.

"At the end of the day, there will be no more extensions for consolidation. We urgently need to address this," Marcos asserted

"We are committed to ensuring that the burden on drivers and operators is not further exacerbated by the modernization process. That's why we're working to ensure a smooth and well-organized system," he said.

As the deadline approaches, Marcos urged jeepney operators to take advantage of the last extension offered. After April 30, those who fail to consolidate their operations will no longer be permitted to operate along designated routes.
