To support the rising demand for electricity in the nation’s capital, the Manila Electric Company (Meralco), led by Manuel V. Pangilinan, has officially energized its new Sampaloc Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) Substation.

Strategically located to serve the heart of Manila, the new facility operates at 115 kilovolts (kV) and delivers 34.5 kV to surrounding areas. With an initial capacity of 83 megavolt amperes (MVA), the substation is designed to bolster power reliability and ensure consistent service for key institutions. Among the immediate beneficiaries are the Jose R. Reyes Memorial Medical Center, Dominican School Manila, and the University of Santo Tomas — all of which play vital roles in education and healthcare.

The commissioning of this substation is part of Meralco’s ongoing effort to reinforce its electricity distribution network. As demand continues to grow in urban centers like Manila, Meralco is investing in modern infrastructure to provide safe, stable, and dependable service to its customers.

This project reflects Meralco’s broader commitment to long-term energy resilience — a crucial factor in supporting the city’s development and the daily lives of its residents.
